2004 Jan 2 - WFV 3290

A 1992 124 Merc Benz 230E converted to E220. 63 kRM from the notorious Along w/shop in BBBangi P4. It was a scam I was trapped in. The car was imported in the first place, and the then owner failed to locate the registered owner in order to proceed with the ownership transfer because he badly needed the money. So he approached Along who promised he can fix it but with a hidden motive that he himself also in need for cash, which the owner did not realise. So when I came in with a lump payment, both eyes were bright opened and very deliriously happy to indulge. But as usual, he needed a lie to cover a lie, and another lie, and another lie. And lastly all the lies were inter-linked to make a no sense move. At that point he forgot that he was lying. All the lies were blown off to open.

1997 Apr 14 Mon - TV 9373

A Proton Wira 1.5 GLA. 51 kRM, a short of 3 kRM from the full spec. Brand new from a showroom Automobil Rakyat, in Kg Baru, Kuala Lumpur, the sale of which En Sharif, was my brother's friend. 38 kRM loan from UKM, paid in full in three years to 2000. This was the second brand new car that I owned, using the second loan from Univ.

It was registered in Terengganu. My cousin Zali facilitated through his classmate in JPJ Kuala Terengganu.

The time was during the hay days of Proton. To acquire through the Univ loan (aka Gov loan) was nightmare for it was regarded by EON as cash term which was disliked by the salesmen because they did not get the commn from the loan provider. And they were so arrogant about it. I kept the loan for six months before finally spent as above after several arrogant answers from several EON agents.

Once it was stolen 2000 Oct 1 Sun from Bandar Tasik Selatan Commutor car park. A report was made in Sg Besi Police Station, but under the Traffic Branch of Cheras, in which Sgt Sharuddin was in charge. Dec 10 Sun police informed that the car was recovered, and was in Cheras Police depot to inspect. It was a day before UniAsia insurance called that the claim for 36 kRM (the amount insured for the third year) was approved. 2001 Feb 7 Wed, it was bonded at Jln Raja court, KL, for 50 kRM (the amount I claimed to have incured) because the arrest was made together with the recovery. Dr Rusli Daik was the guarentor. 9373 was home again.

Almost every one left a 'stain' on 9373.

1997 Mac 23 Sun - WBB 5249 s. 2000 Jun 23 Fri

Nissan Sunny Extra II 1990 from PJ Sunday Car Market for 21 kRM. I bought this car for my brother Jo. He sold it 2000 Jun 23 Fri, for a brand new Iswara.

1997 Feb 11 Tue - TFA 509. s. 2001 Feb

An 'unusual' vehicle. A wooden 100-footer vessel powered by a Yanmmar 56 HP. Bundled with the line fishing licence, it cost 46 kRM, from a local owner En Hussein who docked the vessel at one of the jetties in Kg Batin, Seberang Takir, K Terengganu.

Initially, the engine had a very high inertia of durable engagement with the propeller, that it took quite a sum to maintain. Including several nightmare experienced by the skipper and the crew at the sea. But in between, sea-going was very fun. And for a short time I roamed the coastal Terengganu of the South China Sea. The last fishing trip that I steered was 2000 Jun 10-12 Sat-Mon, taking along Muhamad - Aziz of Kuala Berang team, around Bidong - Redang. Then 2000 Dec 10.

509 was ill-fated in the Terengganu river mouth on the way out to the open sea, 509 sank after a duel with the 'beting' of shallow water, and the wave of the high sea in the river mouth. Refloating technology was not available. It took about a thou to tow to the jetty of Kg Batin, which resulted in the breaking up of the body, which was estimated to take ca 20 kRM to get reconstructed. Taking the consideration of the skipper's 'report card' into contempletion, the carcas with a functioning engine and other gears, and especially the licence, were let go for ca 5 kRM.

1991 Aug 18 - WCG 4629. s. 2007 Jul 7 Sat

A 123 Merc Benz 1980. 51 kRM from Hj Ismail, an Imam in Kemaman through the contact of my buddy Abdullah Ngah. 1992 Dec 30 habis bayar.

1997 Apr 28 Mon bawa ke Ah Meng to be repainted the new blue color. Aug 19 Tue, nearly 4 months later, collected. It was sold to Mazris 2007 Jul 7 Sat in BBBangi for 2 kRM. On checking at PO K Trg 2008 Jul 14 Mon, new owner had not been registered yet But 2008 Jul 23 Wed, a call claiming the new owner from Batu Pahat would like to have the transfer docs signed and verified in K Trg JPJ. 2008 Aug 12 Tue, a called from simlar new owner, saying that WCG was snatched while in the w/shop for repair. The vilain claimed that he was coming to take the car for the owner ('his brother'); put some 5H and drove it away. A police report was said to be lodged, and my name and phone was submitted. And specifically SMS 2008 Sep 10 for the fuel subsidy to be banked in.

1990 April (Raya) - TM 373 - WBB 1667. s. 2003 Oct 5 Tue

A C70 Honda 1990. Brand new, ca. 4 kRM, from the retailer at the Buluh Gading bridge end, Batu 6, K Trg. It was taken to Bangi May 21 by Pahang Mail for AdikJo now moved to Dungun's ITM. It was bought to host the number of the Pajero which was re-registered for a TM number.

It was sold to a colleague of Edi in Kuchai Lama ILP for 300 RM, 2003 Oct 5 Tue.

1989 Sep 24 Sun - WBB 1667 - TM 373. s. 2003 Sep 28 Tue

A 4WD Mitshubishi Pajero 1984, 48 kRM. It was usherd to us by a business-friend home-state Mansor Embong in Shah Alam. Apparently it was owned by a person I had known before, Besar Ngah, a Terengganu SAS-ian 1969, a discarded BBMB Manager, who ran unable to bear the AMFinance loan. He popped up at the right time I was looking for another vehicle to relief TD. A more roomy. Espcially for the long journeys. And heavier loads. Then my #5daughter began to claim her share.

1990 Apr it was re-registered in Kuala Terengganu JPJ for the number AdikJo booked, and conveniently transfered to me by prerogation of the JPJ officer. The previous number was hosted on a brand new C70. For the first time we owned two cars. That gave us a tremendous convenience. I was freer to move while Azizah managed the kids to the school. We moved faster around the country, and carry more and bigger loads. The contemporary projects at the time was the Chitosan Program in the Department, and the KBSM book writing with the KPM. This 4WD however, true to its worth and feature, dig deeper into the pocket. Initially out of eagerness to produce its essence, but later more of maintaining its sensibility. But it spanned through forteen years, longer than that of TD, carrying every one in the family for every purpose.

Eventually it came to the sense that it was too big for a solo purpose. By then the roads around were getting more condensed with traffic. True to its sense, smaller size would do. By then it was served by the brand-newly acquired 9373 from 1997. Thus in Ramadan 2003 Sep 28 Tue, through the contact of my state-buddy Abdullah Ngah, 373 was passed on to his friend from Terengganu for 16 kRM.

1983 Mar 29 Tue - TD 7419. s. 1995 Jun 3 Sat

A Toyota KE30 Corolla 1979. 11 kRM, from a used car dealer near Ladang in Kuala Terengganu, during my two weeks 'resuscitation' break on returning home from England. It was through the salesman En Musa who was staying in the rented house next to my home in Pengkalan Arang, Kuala Terengganu.

I drove the car to Bangi, with my family. The place where I would spend a large fraction of my life, being a full fledge lecturer in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), with the faculty I was in, the science faculty, moved since 1982 May from Pantai Valley, Kuala Lumpur. TD, even though four years plus, was very reliable. I never had any problem or trouble with its engine throughout my ownership for twelve years. It never failed to take the passengers to the intended destination irrespective of the time and weather.

When I started building my own residence in Sg Merab in 1986 Jan 19 Sun, TD served as the the van, lorry, car all in one. Reliably. The roof used to carry the plywoods (over the rug), and the boot and the passenger seat used to carry bags of cement. Azizah commenced her driving life in this car when we moved from BBBangi to Sg Merab in 1987 Jul. Alyani, my #5daughter who was born in 1989 Apr grew up in this car while ferrying her elder brothers and sisters to the school in BBBangi. (Followed similarly by her younger brothers in later years in other car - Pajero).

1989 Dec with Pajero in service, I sent TD7419 for engine overhaul and repaint at the Tong Chye W/Shop in Jln Reko, Kajang, a repay for the car's constant reliable service since March 1983, especially during the time I needed it not to be without. Apart from this I spent very little money on its well-being.

One traumatic memory with TD: during the 1986 Dec home-comming journey, Dec 31 Wed, we started at 5.30 pm in Bangi, after very tired in the office, and around the peripherals. We reached Kemasik at about 5 am the next morning. I was very sleepy, so did every body else. Rubaini was sleeping on the back-dash, Malini and Zidni on the back seat, and Azizah and Muzani on front passenger seat; and during that few microseconds I fall asleep, and the car lost control. The steering wheel was turned by the non-aligned wheels on the rough roads, it made a sharp turn. We were saved by the 'fate', the car turned to the right, between two telephone posts. When I was awaken by the near-accident, the car was on a dead-stop on the road shoulder, heading towards Kuantan. Rubaini fell on Malini and Zidni, Azizah got her head knocked on the wind screen and she got a slight bruise on the lips; only Muzani, then two, unwaken. All my muscles were trembling. I uttered a long "shukur", so did Azizah, made the reverse U-turn and stopped at the nearby Kemasik Mosque for a prayer.

1995 Jun 3 Sat night, just after dinner, I signed the ownership paper to Pok Mak Cik Yam, Mengabang Telung for 8 kRM, in preference to my sister's need while waiting for her second baby. It was a totally wrong preference. To the time of writing, less than half of the agreed price was settled.

1980 Sep 14 Sun - GVU 354 N. s. 1983 Mar 7 Mon

A Moris Marina 1.8 Estate, of mid 1970's at the Manchester Car Market, 750 GBP, from C.J. Haworth of 40 Alderly Drive, Bradbury, Stockport.

The GVU picked up from the CSN to furnish up the rest of our tenure in England. Nearly like I was with DTD in 1975-1976. Including twice to the north, covering almost all the 'warm' part of Scotland. And once to the southern England. The engine apparently had overworked, said to be used to tow the caravan. It thus had the cylinders leaking. A trip to Scotland consumed a gallon of lub. But I did not do anything, apart from topping up the lub, and the coolant.

1983 Mar was my end of tenure in England. For two months GVU did not attract any attention of friends and colleagues. It was sent for auction 1983 Mar 7 Mon, in British Car Auction, Trafford Park. GVU was auctioned the next day and hammered down at 130 GBP. Since it was very close to my departure, I asked the goodself of Alias Yusof to recieved the payment on my behalf and send to me in Malaysia.

1980 Mar 8 Sat - CSN 565 K. s. 1980 Sep 4 Thu

A Fiat 127, of early 1970's. 250 GBP, six month after I arrived in England for my doctorate at Salford University, my MSc alma mater. Even though I was eyeing for a car because I had with me a fifteen months old daughter, plus a second one due in May, I did not mean this one. But for a few months since my arrival, the Fiat owner, an Indonesian, Pak Syahril, living alone on the ground floor of the flats, was so generous in loaning it every time I wanted to go to Withington Hospital for the routine examination of Azizah.

That when he decided to concede his MSc for the family in Indonesia, he insisted that I inherit it. And it was very hard to refuse. And thus I owned the CSN, which made the purpose, for about six months. Including one the longest trip to North Wales in Apr.

In Sep 4 Thu the CSN fall into pieces in Salford car park and forced it to be scrapped for 15 GBP to one at the Waterloo St near Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

1977 Feb 1 - BAU 5162. s. 1979 Sep 13 Thu

A Hillman Avenger 1977. Brand new from Wearn's Brothers PJ New Town, which cost a little more than 7 kRM, with the fund of a University loan I signed from UKM. Contemporarily, the car was the third cheapest. The second was Austin Morris, and the first was Mini Minor. I did not opt for either because of the size. Even Japanese cars were dearer, but the car of the talk was Fiat 124ST which cost close to 12 kRM which was out of my touch.

It was not a/c-ed, in fact car a/c was a luxury at the time. I settled the loan right before it was due, because I needed to let it go for my further study. BAU 5162 was passed on to my cousin Muhamad Endut for 5.5 kRM on taking off at Subang Airport 1979 Sep 13 Thu en route to England for my doctorate.

1974 Dec 5 Thu - DTD 425 E. s. 1976 Oct 11 Mon

A Cortina Mk II. Late 1960's. Previous owner, K.D. Brown. Acquired through Manchester Evening News, for 250 GBP, who lived in no 3, First St, Eccles, Manchester, UK.

The first car I drove; on an International Driving Permit, the licence D of which I acquired through the enrollment in the Capitol Driving School, Sect 17 PJ, from Jun 21 Fri. With a prerogation of En Salleh Tulus in JPJ PJ to forward the test before mid Sep - which I passed the test I sat on 1974 Sep 5 Thu. The car took me to a large part of the mainland UK, to Glasgow, to Brighton, climbing the Pennines, to Land's End, to Kent, to all over Greater London, and to all over Wales, spanning from 1974 Dec to 1976 Oct. With friends and coleagues. A lot of motoring experience were gathered via this machine. Plus the fun of being an AA member in UK. A return for every penny spent on it and on fuel.

I had its engine changed once: resuscitating the great rescue after a major break down 1975 Mar 31 Mon, in Cockburnpath, Scotland. The car had done a lot of good services to the Melayu community in Salford - Manchester, 1975 - 1976. Including becoming the 'official car' for the Salford Malaysian Cultural Night 1975 Mar, and Dec 5 Fri, to transport the bride, Rosmani who was marrying Abang Abdullah in Salford mosque; the morning after which I found that the car was missing (stolen); the day I supposed to help En Mansor to move from Murry Street to Upper Chorlton Road. I made a police report at the Crescent Police Station; the CID came to my room at night, asked some questions, and (apparently standard police questions) asked if I had any reservation on the possible thief. It was Alias who spotted the car at Lilac Court, Churchill Way, Salford Pricint on Dec 8 Mon morning; it was my car, I phoned the police and took the car (undemaged - it was just a joy-rider thing); the CID came to my room again the following night to close the file, and we talked about the hi-fi for he was a nerd in it.

When I moved out from Castle Irwell 1976 Jul 15 Thu to Ellesmere Ave, Eccles, DTD 425 E was pawned as my share to flat-mate Harun - Maimunah, for whom I fought the flat. And many times Harun asked me to overseer his driving of the car around Eccles and Monton. When I left England 1976 Oct 11 Mon, for good, I was taken to Manchester airport by En Mansor, DTD 425 E was legally Harun's to carry his family.

1973 Jan 9 Tue - BN 5243. s. 1973 Jul 16 Mon

A Honda s90 1960's. Jan 9 Tuesday I took it from Guan Thye Motor, Bangsar, to forfeit my installment balance of the BAB 7816. It broke down the day I took it to my place in the Second College, UKM, Sect 16 PJ, and it kept on breaking down day by day, part by part; it eventually costed more than the previous scooter's installment, and it gave me more trouble than before. It was not actually a good decision at all; I neglected it in front of the FPI Office lobby for many months and ended its life (with head lamp chopped off possibly by a thief) with a 50 ringgit at Soh Motor, Section 16 on July 16 Monday. I was then really in a very bad shape. I went by bus, or on the back of friend's bike. Many time borrowing my then room mate, Azahari's Honda.

1971 Sep 8 Wed - BAB 7816. s. 1973 Jan 9 Tue

A Piaggio Vespa Super, 125cc, 1971. Brand new from Guan Thye Motor, also in Bangsar. A more elegent vehicle for a student and more 'versatile' transporter. It has a spare wheel, and a glove box on the left back side. Cost ca. 8 hRM. I passed my riding licence in PJ JPJ on 1971 Oct 7 Thu, riding this scooter, with the Police Station add, through a close contact of my host constable with a JPJ official En Abbas. The B2 fees was 20 RM per twelve months.

In 1972, I 'hugged' a lot this scooter for I lived in the campus during both the day time and night time.

I rode the bike several times to my home in Terengganu from KL. First for the Eid 1971, in mid Nov. During which I took my father, one evening, for the ride home from Batu 6. That was the only such moment for him, to his end in Feb 1972. Then 1972 Nov 3 Fri, in a convoi of 11 bikes, for similar Eid 1972. On this bike I carried Raja Sulaiman 1972 Nov 5 Sun evening to all over the place, to tell the relatives that Che Wan Bakar, an elder in my place, had met a fatal accident at the Batu 6 R/about.

1973 Jan 9 Tuesday, after contempleting and feeling that it took took much for what I actually needed, I took it back to Guan Thye Motor, Bangsar, to forfeit my installment balance with a very old Honda s90, BN 5243, which broke down the day I took it to my place.

1971 May 22 Sat - BAA 9725. s. 1971 Sep 8 Wed

A Yamaha YG1, 80cc, cost ca. 4 hRM. My first motorised vehicle since dreaming to have a moving machine to hop on, as early as in 1968 while waiting to sit for my SPM exams. Brand new from Soh Motor, Jalan Bangsar, KL. A week after I checked-in UKM, Jalan Pantai Bharu. I was riding using the learner L permit of the fee 20 RM for three months.

Riding from Sg Way Police Station, where I was hosted by the family of constable MM27117, to the campus. Quite a distance. One need to produce only the U matric card for the shop to register a bike one wanted (unfortunately only Yamaha) of about 400 ringgit, and pay the installment as the scholarship arrive, in a couple of month. I was still in "L" permit. For the first time I joined the pact in a ride to Pantai Morib on May 30 Sun; and then a long biking with Fadil to his home town in Parit Raja, Batu Pahat during the very first day of the first term break in late July.
